Our New Zealand homestead

For as long as we can remember we had plans to one day move out to the country. We still liked the convenience of the city and didn't want to be isolated (at least not yet) so making sure we had a link to civilization was important.

Situated near a main highway (a necessary evil) we are a mere 10 minutes from the city Motorway and an hour from anywhere in the country's biggest city. On a raised four acres of land, we overlook  rolling farmland on all sides. It has the feel of isolation (other than the nearby road) with the added bonus of accessibility of everything we could need from the township some 10 minutes drive away.

The property has two dwellings; a beautiful three bedroom 1920's villa and a cute little two bedroom granny flat. Both dwellings are on water tanks, and the property has its own well which provides an unlimited supply of bore water.

There are a collection of smaller buildings and sheds, but two key garages; a 6 bay and a 3 bay, the later of which Paul has converted into his studio space for his film-making hobby.

There are three large paddocks, one of which has a makeshift 'barn' as well as the farm's fire-pit. Plenty of grazing land for our current animals and many more as they arrive.

Finally, an acre of pine forest which provides both firewood as well as a place for the kids to explore and have adventures.

  1. So lovely to have found your blog! I recently started blogging about country life in southwest Idaho (U.S.). I hope you'll come by sometime!
